Jacksonville Florida Series
I have discovered so many amazing things about my city, Jacksonville, FL. The city's history and its ever-changing identity are rich in heritage and continually evolving. My husband has lived in Jacksonville all of his life. As we ride around town visiting friends, finding new foods, and enjoying this city of water, he always remarks, "This Used to Be ______," and then relates the history of a building, neighborhood, or resident that once inhabited a place in this town. That's why I call him Captain Use to Be. His tales constantly inspire me to capture the past and present city. I recently did a commission for the Jacksonville Children's Chorus and found myself on the fifth floor of the main library looking through old newspapers in search of a long-gone hotel that once resided on the corner of Forsyth and Main. While looking for the hotel, I prowled local stories from the 1900s. It was fascinating. I also had the opportunity to feature my art in the newcomer's magazine "Historic Life" in 2023 produced by the Resident News Group. I am also very proud to say I currently have 12 pieces in Jacksonville's City Hall.
